HEATHCOTE ELECTORATE TEACHERS WIN UNDER LIBS

The Liberal candidate for Heathcote, Peter Vermeer, has welcomed the announcement by NSW Liberal Leader, John Brogden, to commit $50 million annually to the professional development of teachers across the State. Mr Vermeer said that under a Coalition Government professional development funding would be boosted to $800 per annum per full-time teaching position in the local area. Under Labor the average annual amount available to teachers for professional development is approximately $25 each. Mr Vermeer says the announcement is great news for the hardworking teachers in schools throughout Heathcote electorate. “Teachers simply are not valued enough by this State Labor Government. I am pleased that the Liberals are committed to confronting this important issue” Mr Vermeer said. “This is an important step towards ensuring that the quality of teaching in our local schools is not only maintained, but boosted. This announcement comes on the back of the Liberals’ recent commitment to lower K-2 class sizes to an average of 21 students from the current average of 26. This will see 2,000 additional teachers employed in a move that will further support public education in our community.”
