HELENSBURGH UNITING CHURCH OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE

Our child care service has been in operation now for nearly 15 years at the Bushland Chapel in Parkes Street.

This year is particularly busy, as we are fully booked at present in both before and after-school care. We have never before needed to have a waiting list, so this gives an indication of some changes during that time to the need for care of school-aged children.
We are legally limited to 25 children in before-school care and 50 children in after-school care.

Unfortunately for those seeking care, at present there is no other organised care for this age group, and also no funding even if another group was prepared to start a new service. It could be an issue to bring to the attention of our local representatives in Parliament, as there seems to be increasing community need for this type of service.

If you are looking for work, and have some experience in the care of children, you can apply for registration with the Dept of Family and Community Services, and become a carer in your own home.

At the Uniting Church service, we also run a vacation care program, which will be operating during the next school holidays and taking bookings up to 3 April (unless our limit of 30 children per day is reached before that date).
