OTFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL
Gifted and talented in Otford
On 10 January the Australian Primary Talent Search awards were presented to outstanding students and their nominated teachers.
Students, teachers and parents from as far away as Western Australia and the Northern Territory attended this prestigious event at the University of NSW.
Eleven year old John McIntyre Griman from Otford was proud to be presented with awards for equal third place Year 5 (Year 8 level) and outstanding results in English. John attended Otford Public School until Year 4 when he was accepted into the Opportunity Class at Sutherland Public School.
Otford Public School teacher, Janelle Cudmore, was nominated by John as an outstanding teacher of academically gifted students and was presented with an award for this achievement.
Following the presentations, a reception was held for the award winners, their families and friends. Congratulations and well done!
Otford school goes solar
Otford Public School is now a solar school. Solar panels were installed on the roof and instead of using only electricity, we now use the suns rays to power the school.
In a few weeks time years 4/5/6 will be playing dragon tag which is a type of touch football. We play against other schools from down the coast and its a lot of fun.
Our school participates in the schools clean up day which is part of Clean Up Australia. Some children clean the school playground while others look for rubbish all over Otford.

The swimming carnival
It came and I loved it. Otford, Scarborough and Coledale had a swimming carnival at Helensburgh on Thursday. Years three to six participated and everyone went really well. I decided to enter two races, my age race and the relay, but our relay team didnt go so well. Thank heavens the senior boys swam faster and came second. Jackie and I shared the same lane, same time (55 seconds) and we both came second which I thought was really cool. As Im going to high school next year, this was my final carnival. Thursday was a great day and sometimes I didnt want it to end, but it did.
