Lucas achieved champion results at both the little As and SLS State Titles. Lucas’s excellent performance at these titles has earned him a position in the NSW State Little As Team. This team is set to compete in the Nationals which will be held on 26 April on the Gold Coast. Lucas competed in the Little As State Titles over the weekend of 15/16 March bringing home BRONZE in the 200m with a personal best time and 4th place in the 100m, as well as a SILVER in Beach Sprint at the Telstra 2003 NSW Junior Surf Life Saving Championships at Blacksmith’s Beach, Swansea Belmont.
4,000 competitors (19 from Coalcliff) and their families descended on Blacksmith’s Beach to compete in the Junior State Titles from 28 February to 2 March. The media release from SLS NSW read Country kids shine at Blacksmith’s. It was a day to remember for the “country kids” who outstripped the “city slickers” on the opening day’s competition. This was certainly true of our local Nippers. Day two saw competitors battered by heavy rain and storms, but it did nothing to sway the determination and commitment of the competitors.
There was cause for much jubilation in the Coalcliff camp with 4 State Medals won by Samantha Hammond, who brought home her 8th State medal. Sam has held State Flag and Beach Sprint titles since she first competed in the U8. This year Sam swapped the colours around with her 1st Gold in the Beach Sprint and a Bronze in the Flags. Sam did a personal best time at the Little As State Titles in the 100m, coming in 5th.
Georgie Lang topped her return to Nippers this season with a Silver in the U12 Beach Sprint.
Lucas Crane continued with his fine form bringing home his 2nd Silver State Beach Sprint Medal along with a LittleAs 200m Bronze.
What a great season they have had - Illawarra Branch representatives, all taking out placings at the Interbranch and Illawarra Branch Titles and finishing off the summer season with State Medals.
