RUNNER-UP IN NATIONAL TRUST HERITAGE AWARDS 2003
The National Trust Heritage Awards were announced on Friday 11 April. Helensburgh & District Landcare Group members were pleased to discover that the WISE (Water Information System for the Environment) CD-ROM on the Hacking River Catchment was recognised as runner-up in the National Trust Heritage Awards 2003. The CD-ROM, which was entered in the Electronic Category, was judged as Excellent in its diversity. Easy to access resource material for students of local history. Easy to navigate. The Hacking River Catchment CD-ROM was launched in November 2002. This CD-ROM was the result of several years work by the National Parks & Wildlife Service in cooperation with Helensburgh & District Landcare Group and was funded by a Natural Heritage Trust Grant.
The Hacking River Catchment CD-ROM is a valuable resource tool for schools, universities, communities and researchers. The CR-ROM is available from the National Parks & Wildlife Service, National Parks Centre, Level 1, 43 Bridge Street, Hurstville 2220. Telephone 9253 4600. The price is $27.45 plus $5.50 postage and handling.
Helensburgh & District Landcare members continue to work in our local area removing weeds and revegetating several sites. One such site is along Helensburgh Creek adjacent to the Old Mine Surgery. On National Tree Day, Sunday 27 July, we will be weeding and planting on this site. We would welcome assistance with our work on National Tree Day. We will be working from 1pm to 4pm. Afternoon tea will be provided.
For any further information on how you can help our local environment and become involved in Landcare, please contact Allan or Merilyn House on 4294 1829.
