HIGH ACHIEVERS AT HELENSBURGH TOASTMASTERS
Recent meetings have marked some great achievements for the club. Kerry Phillips gave her icebreaker speech. The icebreaker is the first formal assignment that a new member performs and it is usually a speech about themself. Kerry made use of an innovative set of props - a series of labels with headings on them were pulled out of a box - that added great effect to her speech. Kerry had a good use of humour, she enjoyed giving the speech and it was warmly received by those in attendance. We signed up our newest member, David Williams, on the same night and look forward to an icebreaker from him in the near future.
James Baker continued on his high achievement way at contest level by winning the Area 42 International speech competition. His speech was judged as the best against formidable opposition from representatives of Menai, Miranda, Engadine and Bundeena clubs. James went on to represent Area 42 in the Southern Division final and performed admirably but was unable to place against stiff opposition.
Upcoming events include plans for the clubs five year anniversary in June. Current and former members will be invited to join us for that night. The club meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at the Workmens Club at the earlier time of 7.30pm for 7.45pm start. Call Vicki (4294 2402) or Phil (4294 8089) if you would like further information. Phil Preston
