GOLD MEDALLIST TIPS FOR TOASTMASTERS

Kerryn McCann, women’s marathon gold medallist from the Commonwealth Games last year, was a special guest at the Helensburgh Toastmasters five-year anniversary dinner. Kerryn, a Coledale resident, discussed the background to her running career and some of her key motivating factors. The audience gained an insight into the ups and downs of her life, including the joy of running in the Sydney Olympics and an attempted abduction when she was a teenager. I’m sure we will all be barracking for her in the Athens Olympics next year!
Approximately 40 people attended the dinner including several past members, District Governor John Taylor and a large contingent from Engadine and Menai. The evening was a roaring success. Thanks go out to Margaret Hawrylciw and Vicki Christie who organised the event and to the staff at the Raya Thai restaurant who looked after us well.
At our second meeting in June, James Baker took over from Vicki Christie as President for the coming year. Note that the club meets on the first and third Mondays of each month. Meetings are held at the Workmen’s Club at 7.30pm for 7.45pm start. Call Vicki (4294-2402) or Phil (4294-8089) if you would like further information.
