LANDCARE - NATIONAL TREE DAY
On 27 July members of Helensburgh and District Landcare Group and volunteers from the 1st Helensburgh Scouts gathered at the old band hall site, cnr Parkes and Junction Streets, for a mass planting of native trees. In three hours we managed to plant over 50 native trees, all of which had been grown by Landcare from locally collected seed.
Id like to thank all the volunteers who helped make National Tree Day a success and invite anyone who cares for their local environment and can spare just a few hours every month or two to join Landcare and give us a hand.
We are currently tending three sites: the old band hall (now mine surgery) mentioned above, the old Helensburgh station (cnr Vera Street andTunnel Road), and The Ridge. The work ranges from light weeding and planting to the removal of more substantial weeds.
We are always in need of volunteers and would welcome anyone whos interested. For further details, or to become a member, please call Merilyn House on 4294 1829.
