Interbane reveals its secrets
Known variously as “the old brothel”, “the witch’s house” and “the house on the hill”, Interbane at Bald Hill has inspired as many myths as mysteries.
The landmark property has dominated the skyline above Stanwell Park since 1917.
Now the new owner of the former guest house is planning a book on the intriguing history of Interbane, and is seeking contributions from anyone who had an association with the house.
The son of former owner “Tootie” Harvey, Allan Carrick of Helensburgh, has already been interviewed for the book, recounting many interesting evenings at the old mansion.
Despite persistent rumours, Allan denies the house was ever a brothel. Others claim it was a stopping off point on the way back from football matches further down the coast where footy players enjoyed some “R&R”.
The book is intended to sort the fact from fiction. However, the author needs people willing to come forward with first-hand accounts, anonymously or on the record.
