Truck crash closes Lawrence Hargrave Drive
Stanwell Park residents were left without power for more than eight hours on May 24 when a fully laden coal truck overturned at the bottom of Bald Hill, just south of Chellowdene Avenue.
The dog trailer flipped on its side, taking down a power pole and ensnaring its wheels in the lines.
Residents were left pondering what might have been as the dog trailer lay stranded across the footpath where only moments before a mother had been pushing her baby in a stroller and an elderly couple had been walking.
The accident left Stanwell Park and Coalcliff inaccessible with Lawrence Hargrave Drive the only road in or out following the closure further south.
Many people were unable to get to work or appointments for the four hours the road was blocked. One lane was opened at 3.30pm, just in time for parents to get children from school or leave to pick them up from other schools and pre-schools.
Stanwell Park Public School held some classes outdoors due to the blackened classrooms and insisted that parents sign their children out before allowing them to leave.
