Helensburgh Public School to get new facilities
Tenders have been called for a multi-million dollar upgrade at Helensburgh Public School. Member for Heathcote, Paul McLeay, said the move followed a lengthy development approval by Wollongong City Council.
“Compliments to the new principal and support staff for their hard work in ensuring that this project got underway,” he said.
The upgrade would provide students and teachers at the school with a range of world-class educational facilities and a great community building. The school community would be able to hold events in comfort and safety.
“News of this major upgrade is really terrific for the Helensburgh Public School community,” Mr McLeay said.
The proposed works include a hall, canteen, covered outdoor learning area, landscaping and site works, an access road, car parking spaces, traffic management and disabled access.
The new hall will not only be used for sporting activities and performing arts but will become an exciting display area for subjects such as visual arts and material technology.
The outdoor learning area would encourage staff to experiment by taking lessons outside, adding variety to their daily teaching structure. “These new facilities will also help to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment and foster young talent.”
Mr McLeay said the upgrade would benefit the local community by creating around 56 jobs.
