Bill cleans up awards One of the long-term volunteers with the Lawrence Hargrave Creek Restoration Project, Bill Harris, has won an environmental award for his efforts. Bill was presented with an Illawarra Environmental Volunteers Awards by the Mayor of Wollongong, Councillor Alex Darling, in December. He was nominated by the Stanwell Park branch of the CWA which sponsors the creek restoration project. President Elaine Pugh said the association was delighted that Bill had won the prestigious award. “Bill has worked frequently and enthusiastically over the last six years on this project,” Elaine said. “Great progress has been made, new trees planted and weeds eradicated. Elaine said the project’s damaged notice board on the highway would soon be replaced, enabling the group to advertise working bees and tree plantings. “Come along and help everyone is welcome,” she said. Bill said now the project was affiliated with Bushcare, more planting was taking place. “We’re slowly getting on top of things,” he said. The next working bee is on Saturday, 19 February, from 9am. Meet opposite the tennis courts in The Drive, Stanwell Park. |
