New era for Bowling Club
Contracts for the sale of the Helensburgh Bowling Club are due to exchange on 31 July, according to general manager Gary Baudinette.
Mr Baudinette said the Helensburgh Workmen’s Club had purchased the property and was due to take over operations on 1 August.
“It will continue to operate as a bowling club but I’m not sure if it will have one or two greens,” he said.
While not disclosing the sale price, Mr Baudinette said the club could have achieved a higher return but “decided to go with the Workers as it was beneficial for them, for us and the people of Helensburgh”.
He said the restaurant at the Bowling Club would close on 24 July in preparation for the change-over and the poker machines would be replaced.
Mr Baudinette said the sale was good for the Engadine Bowling Club, which has operated the Helensburgh club for the past three years under a rescue package.
Workmen’s Club manager Gordon Steele did not wish to comment until contracts were finalised.
