Helensburgh Women’s Bowling Club

With overcast weather conditions we celebrated our long-awaited 50th anniversary. President June and her execs welcomed about 70 members and guests.
Included among the distinguished guests were members from the Illawarra District Women’s Bowling Association, serving presidents and past presidents from several bowling clubs, and our very loyal non-playing members.
After the speeches, responses and cards were completed, President June thanked everyone for their attendance and especially all the ladies who worked to help make this 50th anniversary a successful day.
As we sat down to enjoy this wonderful celebration, our thoughts and memories were with the early Foundation Members, both men and women who, with a strong determination and mostly through a labour of love and dedication, making the HBC possible 50 years ago.
Hopefully the future generations will continue to support and progress as the change over to the Helensburgh Worker’s Club occurs.
To mark this special occasion, we were each presented with a gold-inscribed pen.
On 31 May, we played one round of Major Singles and the winner was S. Cassidy. One round of Consistency Singles was won by V.West and the Queen of the Green for May was S. Cassidy.
On 7 June, we held our annual AGM where we discussed finances and the election of office bearers. Most of our current office bearers were re-elected to their positions with J.Van Zyl as treasurer, S.Cassidy vice-president and R.Sargeant, B.Gallagher and J.Smith on the committee. We thank those members leaving their positions and good luck to those taking on the responsibilities.
On 21 June we played our annual Friendship Day at the Bankstown Bowling Club to complete for the Kelly/Coffee Trophy which has been going for many decades.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Lois McPherson who recently passed away. We miss her attendance.
