For Goodness Sake
With Deanne Ashford

Do you feel you have walked to Melbourne and back so far this year but still have unwanted wobbly bits? Dieted so much that by all accounts you should be hanging off a charm bracelet?
Well, maybe your best intentions are actually sabotaging your body’s chance of giving you what you want. You see, every time you lose “weight”, a bit of it is muscle – the very thing that burns up energy in your body. It’s not advisable to lose muscle and most of us could do with increasing our “lean muscle tissue” so that we burn more energy all the time. Two words – Resistance Training.
Three brilliant things about resistance training are that it works, it is functional, and it can be adapted for anyone - age, ability, and gender are irrelevant. It is the fastest way to get into shape, helping you lose chubs while retaining valuable muscle.
If you have never lifted a barbell (a what?) in your life, then you need direction! Most gyms now offer group barbell classes, set to music which are a great introduction if you are injury free.
If you have “issues” like a niggly knee, arthritis, you are allergic to gyms or want to get sports-specific training, then a personal trainer will give you a program that is just for you.
Good health to you, Deanne
