Helensburgh finishes runner-up in Rod Wishart Shield
The Rod Wishart Shield was played at WIN Stadium before a crowd of 19,500 as a preliminary game to the main Dragons vs Roosters fixture on 29 July.
Helensburgh and Berry Public Schools had won the right to play in the final from a number of schools in the Illawarra and South Coast Regions. The game was a fast flowing and skilful affair, with Berry emerging the deserving victors, 18-0.
The score, however, does not reflect the effort and skill displayed by our boys. They defended courageously and were unlucky not to have scored themselves on two occasions when they were denied only by desperate last-minute tackles. Congratulations to all the team on reaching the final, the skilful and sportsmanlike way that you conducted yourselves and how superbly you promoted our excellent school in the Illawarra.
